LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Florence Elizabeth Nelson, 90, of Lincoln, formerly of Curtis, Nebraska, died Thursday (March 20, 2014) at her home in Savanna Pines, Lincoln.

She was born March 10, 1924, in Red Cloud, Nebraska, to Lewis M. and Elizabeth A. (Duval) Hansen.

She grew up on the family farm near Red Cloud and graduated from Red Cloud High School. She lived at Red Cloud until moving to Curtis in 1943.

On May 21, 1944 she married Ernest T. Nelson.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 4-H and Girl Scout Leader and Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing quilts for family members and Project Linus. She liked to play cards with friends and wintered in Texas for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Nelson; daughter, Cynthia Softley; her parents Lewis and Elizabeth Hansen; three brothers and their wives, Ray and Bonnie Hansen, Don and Winnie Hansen and Lester and Dorothy Hansen; brother, Cecil Hansen; sister, Doris and Rex Blackstone; sister-in-law, LaVaughn and husband Marvin Brand; and in-laws Alvah and Rissena Nelson.

Survivors include her son, Stan and wife Jackie Nelson of Curtis; daughter, Cheryl and husband Randy Jurgens of Lincoln; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Lia Hansen; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 23, 2014, 3-7 p.m. with the family present from 3-5 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, in Curtis.

Funeral Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 402 Center, in Curtis with the Rev. Bonnie Forney officiating.

Interment to follow in the Curtis Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Christian Heritage Home or First United Methodist Church of Curtis.
