McCOOK, Nebraska -- Ardith Jean Pinkal passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Community Hospital in McCook.

Ardith was born on Oct. 10, 1930, to Clarence Cecil and Polly M. Bales in McCook. She graduated from McCook High School in 1949.

She married Fred Alvin Pinkal, Sr. on June 11, 1950, and to this union five children were born. Fred and Ardith lived their married life and raised their children in McCook. Ardith enjoyed spending time with her family, embroidering, and crocheting. Later in life, she enjoyed making quilts with her husband, Fred.

Ardith was a member of First Congregational Church where she served in numerous capacities. She also enjoyed singing in the choir at the church.

She was a Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Youth Group leader. She had the reputation of being the best dressed witch in town on Halloween. Many of the neighborhood children might remember trick or treating at her and Fred's home.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; sisters, Charlotte Frease, Evelyn Park and Marie Patton; brothers, Warren Bales, Virgil Bales; granddaughter, Shanna Bales; and son-in-law, Joe Goodenberger, Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; children, Denise and husband, Steve Bales, Fred Jr. and wife, Heidi, Terry and wife, Lynn, Shari Goodenberger and special friend, John Beideck, all of McCook, Rob and wife, Barb, of Indianola; brothers, William Bales and wife, Geri of California, Floyd Bales and wife, Carla of McCook; sister, Sherry Hornkohl of McCook; special care provider, Cherri Carfield; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, March, 21, 2014, at First Congregational Church in McCook with Rev. Steve Bales officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
