OBERLIN, Kansas -- Alene Scott was born Aug. 12, 1929, at the rural Decatur County home of her parents, Frank and Anna Mae (Fiala) Krizek. She passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, at the age of 84.
Alene grew up on the family farm southwest of Jennings along with six siblings. She attended school in Jennings.
On Oct. 5, 1950, Alene married Donald D. Scott in Oberlin. Two sons and a daughter were born to their union. The family made their home on the farm where Don was born and raised, located northwest of Oberlin.
In the early years of her marriage, Alene kept busy making a home for her family. She later worked at Addleman Drug Store for a number of years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oberlin.
Don preceded Alene in death on Jan. 6, 2007. She remained on the farm for several years before moving to the Lebensraum Assisted Living in Grand Island 3 1/2 years ago. A couple of years later, Alene moved to the Tiffany Square Nursing Home in Grand Island.
Alene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly and treasured time spent with them. She also loved living on the farm. After Don passed away, Alene appreciated the solitude and watching the various animals that wondered by. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities over the years and enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, bingo and auctions.
Survivors include her three children and a daughter-in-law, Lee Don and Melanie Scott of Oberlin, Mark Scott of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Kay Danburg of Grand Island, Nebraska; two brothers, Galen and Joyce Krizek of Pueblo, Colorado, and Roger and Corky Krizek of McCook, Nebraska; one sister, Lelia and Jack Benton of Oberlin; sister-in-law, Karon Scott of Oberlin; seven grandchildren, Danielle (Justin) Becker, Britton (Amber) Scott, Chanelle Scott, Bronson Scott, Natasha Danburg, Rachelle Scott, and Ciarra Danburg; and six great-grandchildren, Teagan and Addison Becker, Claire, Mariah and Tucker Scott and Brecken Danburg.
