BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Wiley L. Wentling, 80, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2014), at Phelps Memorial Hospital, Holdrege, Nebraska.

He was born July 7, 1933, at Achilles, Kansas, to William L. and Alma R. (Fox) Wentling. He graduated from Beaver City High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, joining the 82nd Airborne squad. While training in North Carolina, he married Carolyn Noel of Beaver City on Oct. 29, 1953. After his honorable discharge in 1956, they came back to Nebraska.

He worked for Bernard Sawyer at his service station in Beaver City in 1962. He worked as a driver's examiner for several years before starting Wentling Construction. They built several houses in Beaver City and the surrounding area during the 1970s. He worked at Becton-Dickinson in 1980 and worked there for the next 18 years before retiring in 1998. He continued the construction business on the side by helping do smaller jobs for many people. Carolyn and Wiley also had a ceramic business "Clay Barn," in which they sold many ceramic dolls and figurines.

He was a member of the Jaycees, volunteer fire department, and Faith Community Church, all of Beaver City.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Starne, Laura Simmons, LiLa Belle Wilber, Wilma Evans, Mary Wentling, and Sharon Fitch.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Wentling of Beaver City; children, Rebecca Carol and husband, Leonard Massey of Gilbert, Arizona, Valerie Lynn and husband, Orly Stolts of Naples, Florida and Linda Kaye and husband, Randy Helms of Holbrook, Nebraska; brother, Earl Ervin and wife, Ruth Wentling of Kingman, Arizona; five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Daryl Kats officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.

Viewing and visitation is Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to the service at the church.
