ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Helen Elizabeth Cross, 101, died Saturday (Feb. 7, 2014), at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Society in Arapahoe.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1912, on a farm northeast of Edison, Nebraska, to Thomas E. and Nora A. (Sanderson) Hays.

She married Earl William Cross of Edison, Nebraska at North Platte, Nebraska. They lived on a farm northeast of Edison. After her husband was killed in a vehicle accident March 8, 1953, she and her children moved to Edison, Nebraska. She later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in March of 1957 for schooling. She worked as a dental assistant for more than 20 years.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Edison American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl William; brother, Thomas Hays; and sisters, Agnes Fisher, Christine McDonald and Alice Watts.

Survivors include children, Vaughn Earl Cross of Pinedale, Wyoming, Thomas Macie of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Sharon Naoma and husband, Eugene Flueckinger of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Sharol Ramona Cross of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters, Hazel Cross of Arapahoe and Patricia Dold of Chaney, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Arapahoe Christian Church with the Rev. David Welch officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, and prior to the service at the church.
