PALISADE, Nebraska -- Betty Ruth Hunt, age 83, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Nebraska.

She was born in McCook on Nov. 1, 1930, to Ray J. and Ivah D. (Grigsby) Tilley. Betty attended and graduated high school from Niangua, Missouri in 1948, then she went to Colorado State University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1953.

On Aug. 2, 1953, Betty married Donald Hunt in Fort Collins, Colorado. To this union three children were born. The couple farmed southeast of Palisade and Betty taught school in Trenton from 1954 -- 1955 and Palisade from 1956-1977. Betty was the Palisade city clerk from 1981 until 1995. She was voted the Nebraska Village clerk of the year in 1987.

Betty was a member of Palisade United Methodist Church, where she served as an active member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing the piano for church services. She was also a member of the Southwest Nebraska Clerks Association and served on the Palisade Village board for several terms.

Survivors include her sons, David Hunt and wife, Donna of Fairbury, Nebraska, and Rodney Hunt and wife, Laura of Palisade and daughter, Valerie Veach and husband, Jim of Malmo, Nebraska. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Yale Hunt, Donald Hunt, Tanya Propp, Tiffany McGinnis, Christina McGinnis, Courtney McGinnis, LaTisha Hunt, and LaRhonda Michael and seven great-grandchildren, Zebulin Propp, Talyn Propp, Emersyn Propp, Ashlynn Propp, Josslynn Propp, Sabastian Michael and Spencer Michael.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; brothers, Ray James Tilley, Jr., Sanford Lynn Tilley and Henry Dean Tilley; and sister, Margaret Francis.

Memorial services will be Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Bonnie McCord officiating. Inurnment will be in the Palisade Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Palisade United Methodist Church.
