HERNDON, Kansas -- Evelyn E. Lorentz, age 79, of Herndon, Kansas, died at the Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014.

She was born in Herndon on March 17, 1934, to Roy and Viola (Owens) Frick. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1952. She taught country school for one year before moving to Omaha to work for a savings and loan company. Evelyn was transferred back to McCook to work for the savings and loan. Later she worked for the Cox Grocery Store and sold Avon.

On Oct. 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to Clarence Lorentz in Trenton, Nebraska. Evelyn served as the city clerk for the City of Herndon for more than 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, canning and fishing. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Herndon and Herndon PRIDE.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, Roy, in 1981.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Clarence of Herndon: mother, Viola Frick of McCook; two daughters, Sandra and husband, Andrew Green of Herndon and Sherri and husband, Carl Stouffer of Schoenchen, Kansas; three sons, Rick Lorentz and special friend, Janet Haag of McCook, Rodney and Roger Lorentz of Herndon; six grandchildren; one sister, Denise and husband, Jerry Holbrook of Crossville, Tennessee; and three brothers, Arvene and wife, Jackie Frick of McCook, Vernon and wife, Sue Frick and LaVern and Sharon Frick, all of Herndon.

Memorial services are planned for 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska, with Pastor Lynn Reynolds officiating. A family inurnment will take place at a later date at Herndon Immanuel Cemetery.

Family will greet friends Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel.
