Frank Earl Gerih

WAUNETA, Nebraska -- Frank Earl Gerih, age 84, of Wauneta passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, Nebraska.

Frank was born March 21, 1929, in Eckley, Colorado, to parents Mike and Barbara (Sohnlein) Gerih. He was one of eight children.

On July 28, 1962, Frank married Dwila Guthrie in Yuma, Colorado. The family made their home in rural Wauneta.

Frank entered the United States Army on April 24, 1951. He proudly served his country during The Korean War, receiving the Korean Service medal with Three Bronze Service Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on March 14, 1953.

Frank was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, as well as a member of the VFW Post of Palisade. He was proud to be a Tennessee Squire for over thirty years. Frank enjoyed trap shooting and training his bird dogs. He was an avid hunter. Love of family was always first in his life.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Dee of Wauneta; two daughters, Judee (Wes) Easter of Hershey, Nebraska and Julee Wilson of McCook, Nebraska; granddaughter, Kimberly (Dallas) Mues of Bartley, Nebraska and their children, Kayla and Dalton Mues and granddaughter Mariah Easter of Hershey; two nephews that reside locally, Randy (Jan) Gerih of Wauneta and David Gerih of McCook; along with numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Johnnie Ourada; four sisters; three brothers; and his beloved bird dogs, Okie 1 and Okie 2.

Per Frank's request, he chose cremation. A private family service will be held at a later date.
