OBERLIN, Kansas -- Dorothy Ruby VanPelt, 81, died Saturday (Dec. 28, 2013), at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin,
She was born Feb. 26, 1932, to William and Eunice (Yarnell) Ruby in Danbury, Nebraska. She attended school in Danbury and McCook, Nebraska.
She married Ross Van Pelt on Sept. 26, 1948, in Danbury.
She was a waitress, house cleaner and motel maid.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary,
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wes and Eunice (Yarnell) Ruby; husband, Ross VanPelt; four brothers, Don, Raymond, Warren, and Dean Ruby; two sisters, Clara Keen and Aileen Boyd, and one grandson, Tyler Wozniak.
Survivors incoude her children, Jim VanPelt of Hugo, Colorado; Bille Rubinfeld and husband, Harold of Lancaster, California; Marla Wozniak and husband, Gary, of Oberlin, Kansas and Barbara Tally of Oberlin; brothers, William Ruby of Hastings, Nebraska and Robert Ruby of Grand Island, Nebraska; sisters, Catherine Lewis and husband, Lefty of Council Bluffs, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Services will be at a later date at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name.
