CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Earnest D. ten Bensel, age 98, of Cambridge, died at the Cambridge Manor on Dec. 17, 2013.
He was born near Cambridge on the family farm on Oct. 26, 1915, to Henry and Mildred (Thompson) ten Bensel. Earnest rode a horse to school in Wilsonville, graduating from Wilsonville High School in 1933. He celebrated his 80th graduation from high school last summer.
Earnest was married to Alvi S. Sharner in Bendersville, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 10, 1949, and she preceded him in death. He later married Jan Andrews and she preceded him in death in 2004.
Earnest was a life member of the Christian Church in Wilsonville. He was a member of the Cambridge Lions International. Earnest farmed southeast of Cambridge, retiring in 1997. He moved to Cambridge and lived at the Heritage Plaza until January of this year, when he moved to the Cambridge Manor.
Earnest was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Alvie and Jan; brother, Richard; and three sisters, Golda, Ethel and Ruth.
He is survived by his two sisters, June Palmer of Wilsonville; Nebraska and Joyce and husband, Kenneth Ross of Aurora, Colorado; three brothers, Roy and Paul of Cambridge and Carl of Wilsonville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Wilsonville Baptist/Christian Church with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge.
