Carolyn 'Kay' Jesch

PALISADE, Nebraska -- Carolyn "Kay" Jesch was born Feb. 17, 1937, in Hayes Center, Nebraska, to Floyd and Gladys "Rathbun" Carmin. Kay grew up and attended school in Hayes Center, where she graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1954. She taught in a rural school for two years.

On Sept. 1, 1956, Kay married Gilbert Jesch and to this union five children were born: Mary, Dora, Ami, Michael, and Dennis. The family first lived in the Stratton, Nebraska, area and later they moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Kay entered nursing school and received her LPN nurse's license in 1979. She worked as a nurse in Thief River Falls for nine years. In 1988, Kay moved to Connecticut and later Pennsylvania where she continued her nursing. Kay moved back to Nebraska in 2009.

Kay loved raising and spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing scrabble, gardening, painting, arranging flowers and making ceramics.

Kay passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She was 76 years of age.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Gladys Carmin; daughter, Mary Dunn; and nephew, infant Todd Frederick Krotter.

Survivors include daughters, Dora Jesch of Bemidji, Minnesota and Ami Carmin of New Hartford, Connecticut, son, Michael Jesch and wife, Teresa of Knotts Island, North Carolina, son, Dennis Jesch of Moorhead, Minnesota; sister, Nada Krotter and husband, Fred of Palisade, Nebraska; brother, Richard Carmin and wife, Jeanette of Imperial, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; special friends, Lou and Trudy and pet companions, Mandy and Ziggie.

Funeral services for Kay will be Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, 11 a.m. (CT) at Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, Nebraska, with Pastor Kevin McGraw and Pastor Joshua Clark officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Palisade Cemetery, Palisade, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Kay's memory.

No visitation, Kay chose cremation.
