NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Frances Elaine Neiman, 90, of North Platte, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Sutherland Care Center.

Frances was born Feb. 14, 1923, to August Jacob and Clara Camille Pick Kotschwar at Curtis, Nebraska, where she grew up. She graduated from high school there in 1941.

On Sept.11, 1942, Frances married Jon Leroy Neiman in Benkleman, Nebraska, and they lived on the Neiman Homestead south of Curtis, then moved to a farm north of McCook, Nebraska, In December 1959, they bought a ranch near Thedford, Nebraska, where they ranched until they moved to North Platte late in 2007.

Frances was a member of First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star in McCook. She was also a member of the Thedford Art Guild and a local lady's club for many years. Frances was an artist and a published poet who had received many awards for her poetry.

She was a fabulous cook, an avid reader and loved gardening. She also raised lambs, goats and sheep. Frances liked to sew and made her own clothes. She was a good wife and mother and was very close to her in-laws.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Mardee Neiman, of Lakewood, Colorado, and Carol Jean (Terry) Lewis, of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Jon "Jack" (Kristi) Neiman Jr., Jamie (Mike) McCreary, Troy (Christy) Neiman, Tegwin Egle, Trampas (Talli) Kluender, Christopher (Christina) Lewis and Jacob Lewis; seven great-grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Michael, Garrett, Aiden, Claire Rose and Jack; and other family.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jon; a son, Jon "Jack" Sr.; her parents, August and Clara Kotschwar; five brothers, Gerald, August "A.J.," Harold, Esley and Richard Kotschwar; a grandson, Joseph Neiman; and two great-grandchildren, Kristin Neiman and Baby Neiman.

Memorial services with Eastern Star Rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Masonic Temple on Norris Avenue in McCook.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in North Platte. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com.
