Tractor Ride Across Nebraska to end at Three Corners

Monday, December 2, 2013

HAIGLER, Nebraska -- A rarely visited, but geographically important site will serve a significant purpose Sunday, June 8, 2014, when a cavalcade of tractors travels over country roads to reach the point where three states--Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado--come together at a tiny spot southwest of Haigler, Nebraska.

The climactic occasion will be the grand conclusion of the 2014 Tractor Ride Across Nebraska, a week-long trek which will follow United States Highways 6&34 through a major portion of the Cornhusker State.

TRAN -- as the tractor cavalcade is called -- will start at Nebraska City Sunday, May 31, 2014, and proceed steadily over paved highways at a clip of about 50 miles per day, according to Bob Golding, a tractor enthusiast who farms in the Stratton area.

"We're proud that this year's Tractor Ride Across Nebraska will climax in Southwest Nebraska," Golding said. "It is especially fitting that the ride's grand finale will be the gravel-and-dirt road journey from Haigler to the historic Three Corner point that is the place where Nebraska and Kansas touch Colorado."

The 2014 Tractor Ride Across Nebraska is expected to reach Arapahoe Friday, June 16, 2014, then proceed at approximately 10 miles per hour on U.S. 6-34 through Holbrook, Cambridge, Bartley, Indianola, Red Willow, McCook, and Culbertson, before branching off on U.S. 34 through Trenton, Stratton, Max, Benkelman and Haigler.

In Southwest Nebraska, arrangements for TRAN are being made by Jerry Metzger for the Arapahoe to McCook stretch; by Bob Golding for the McCook to Benkelman ride; and by Jim Russell for the Benkelman to Haigler and Three-Point portion.
