Friday, November 29, 2013

MAYWOOD, Nebraska -- A Maywood, Nebraska, village board member will retain her trustee position following a recall election Nov. 19.

A total of 60 Maywood residents voted to keep Colleen Stone on the board; 52 voted to relieve her of her position.

Maywood resident Joe Schmidt had requested the recall election, gathering 59 valid signatures, of a required 52, on a recall petition.

After the recall election, Stone told the Frontier County enterprise, "I am looking forward to continuing my work on the village board with my fellow board members. ... I very much appreciate those in the community of Maywood who came out and cast their votes to support me in my position as village board trustee."

Also this fall, Maywood resident Tim Wolfe had requested a recall of school board members Lyle Koester, Donita Werkmeister, Sheri Hartley and David Dodson. The Enterprise reports that those petitions were never filed and no recall elections took place.

  • She won her recall 60-52. Not a good thing when 52 people in a small town vote to have you removed. From what I have heard from people in that village, she deserved to be recalled. Not liked by many.
