Police cracking down on rolling stops onto Highway 83

Monday, October 28, 2013

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Complaints of drivers failing to stop before turning right at the U.S. Highway 83 intersections with B Street and J Street has prompted the McCook Police Department to conduct extra patrol activity in an effort to increase awareness and potentially reduce accidents.

The police department issued a reminder that Nebraska statutes require complete stops at all intersections controlled by traffic control devices, which includes stop signs and traffic signals.

Drivers must come to a complete stop before turning on all sides of the intersections of U.S. Highway 83 with B Street and J Street.

Turning right without coming to a complete stop at both of the intersections is prohibited and is a violation of state statutes, according to the police department.

"The McCook Police Department appreciates the efforts of all McCook residents in keeping our children, pedestrians and drivers safe," said Chief of Police Isaac Brown.

  • Perhaps a sign would help.
