KAMSLOOP, British Columbia -- Ellis Kasten, 74, of Kamsloop, British Columbia, formerly of Nebraska, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, after a six month battle with cancer.
He was born on March 14, 1939 to Carl and Elsie Kasten and grew up near McCook, Nebraska. He graduated from high school in Hutchinson, Kansas. He attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska, where he met his wife, Dottie. They were married on Aug. 28, 1964. They served as youth workers at Grove Bible Church in Michigan, then returned to Nebraska where he was pastor for his home church. Their missionary work took them to Alaska, where he served as pastor in the Native churches in several villages and also operated a small Christian book store and worked as assistant post master.
In 1981, the family moved to Slave Lake, Alberta and in 1985, they moved to Quesnel, British Columbia. In 1991, they moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta, where he was pastor for 14 years. He continued to serve as a pastor part-time until he became too ill
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Wayne and his father, Carl Fredrick.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie Kasten of Kamloops, British Columbia, children, Tim and wife, Debbie Kasten of Kamloops, BC; Sharon and husband, Doug Scramstad of Port Coquitlum, BC; Teresa and husband, Andre Fuellbrandt of Smithers, BC and Jolene Morris of Grande Prairie Alberta; his mother, Elsie Kasten; a sister, Dorothy and husband, Harold Cook of Central City, Nebraska, and 11 grandchildren.
Services were in Kamsloop, British Columbia.
