McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is gearing up for Pink Out night at the Event Center Oct. 23 when the Lady Indian volleyball team takes on North Platte.

Pink volleyballs, pink shirts, pink bracelets and more are all aimed at helping the MCC organization raise awareness for breast cancer. All the proceeds will go toward breast cancer research and awareness.

The 2013 Pink Out shirts are available at von Riesen Library for $10 and this year there are youth shirts up to size 2X. In addition, last year's Pink Out shirts are available for $5. One of the most popular items from last year's Pink Out were the pink bracelets which will be sold at the Events Center for $1.

"I was really impressed with the success last year's PTK team had with the Pink Out, for the first year it was a hit," said PTK President Brian Calvin. "I was glad to be a part of it last year and an even bigger part of it this year as we go above and beyond what we did last year."

PTK members are also raising funds through a special Pink Out raffle which includes five pink personal-care bags filled with a number of the special Pink-Out merchandise, and other items.

Even the volleyballs will be pink, thanks to a donation from The Sports Shoppe.

If anyone is interested in purchasing this year's Pink Out shirts, they are available at von Riesen Library. Order forms are also available at Pink Out sponsors including. Hamilton's Hair Creations, Eakes and McCook National Bank.

Informational tables and health-care vendors will also be set up in the Event Center concourse.

"This all got started last year when Bev Alred, MCC library staff member, encouraged our group to take on this project," said PTK sponsor Shannon Schaben. "Since her daughter Natalie is the MCC volleyball coach the volleyball court seemed like a great way to create awareness on a local level."
