McCOOK, Nebraska -- Beauford "Beau" E. Gilbert, age 91, of McCook, Nebraska, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.
He was born in Frankfort, Michigan on July 25, 1922, to Ernest and Ethel (Osgood) Gilbert. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1941. He joined the Army Air Corp Oct. 31, 1942 during World War II, serving in the Western Pacific and Air Offensive of Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on Feb. 13, 1946. He was stationed in McCook, Nebraska, at the Army-Air Base, where he met and married his wife, Jan Gochis, on May 24, 1945. She preceded him in death in 1994. They moved to Jackson Michigan, for two years, then moved to McCook, Nebraska, for the remainder of his life.
He worked at the Olympia for his father-in-law, Alex Gochis for many years. He also owned the Bargain House Antique Store. In 1958, he and his wife, Jean, purchased the Mode O Day women's apparel store, which they ran until retiring in 1986.
He loved to fish and hunt pheasants and had a passion for cars, either new or old.
Beau remarried in 1996 to Marion Carter and she preceded him in death in 2011. Beau was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks and Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Jean and Marion; five siblings, Cleve, Steve and Harry Gilbert, Iva Hunt and Pearl Schlueter.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzan Jean and husband, Larry Weber of Franktown, Colorado; son, Michael and wife, Janice of McCook; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook, Nebraska, on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Father Rick Moon officiating. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium of St. Alban's Church.
