GREELEY, Colorado -- Kayla J. Quist, CMSW, 48, passed away on Sept. 20, 2013, at the hospital in Greeley, Colorado, of complications from MS.
Kayla was born in Little Falls, Minnesota on Feb. 14, 1965. She graduated from high school in Brighton, Colorado, in 1983 and received her BA from Midland Luteran College in Fremont, Nebraska in 1987. In 1989, she received her Master of Social Work degree from UNO and she worked for Charles Drew Health Center in North Omaha as a clinical counselor caring for the needs of the poor and homeless population as well as HIV/AIDS testing and counselling. In 1997 she moved to McCook, Nebraska, where she was active in several churches as well as volunteer work with the elementary school reading for children and took classes at McCook Community College.
Kayla loved reading, Bible study, Christian music, basketball, and football. She moved to Kenton Manor in Greeley in 2010.
Kayla is survived by her parents, Dian and Rodger Quist of Brighton, Colorado; brother, Paul and his wife, Tracey Quist of Delta, Colorado; sister, Leticia and her husband, Ty Wilson of Centennial, Colorado; her partner of 23 years, Walter Eskildsen of McCook ; and her 11 nieces and nephews: Johanna, Caeden, Reilly, Cameron, Alayna, Sterlie, Saeda, Cohen, Braden, Jesse and Lawsen.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home, 73 South 13th Avenue, Brighton, Colorado 80601.
