Ramona Hornkohl

MARION, Nebraska -- Ramona Hornkohl, age 83, of Marion, died Thursday (Sept. 19, 2013), at Community Hospital in McCook.

She was born on the family farm Jan. 17, 1930, near Norcatur, in Decatur County, Kansas. She attended grade school in Kanona and graduated from Oberlin High School. Ramona was employed by one of the Oberlin restaurants until she married Harold Hornkohl on May 9, 1953. To this union their son, Bob, was born in 1955.

Ramona was a dedicated wife and mother and a key component to the success of the family She supported and encouraged the various business and farming endeavors of Harold and Bob, always willing to lend a hand when needed. Ramona shared her talents as an excellent cook and baker. An extra plate was often set for others at meal time and she generously welcomed many to her kitchen table over the years.

Always thinking of others, she was also known to send cards of encouragement and celebration to family and friends. Her compassion for animals was deep and those who knew her also recognized her devotion to Blackie, her faithful house cat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth (Kipple) Soderlund, her husband, Harold (2010); son, Bob, (2004); sister and brother-in-law, Mayre and Vern Pittenger and brother- in-law, Lavern Holle.

Survivors include her sister, Carolyn Holle of Agra, Kansas; brother, Billy J. Soderlund and wife, Patricia of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services are Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Danbury Presbyterian Church with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment is at the Danbury Marion Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be left in Ramona's name to the Presbyterian Church of Beaver Valley Ambulance Squad.
