ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Donald C. Schaepler, 86, of Arapahoe died Sunday (Sept. 15, 2013), at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center at Arapahoe.
He was born June 16, 1927, at Stromsburg, Nebraska, to Charles and Alveena (Dobberstein) Schaepler. He grew up at Polk, Nebraska, and graduated from Polk High School in 1945. He married Margaret M. Gertsch on Sept. 12, 1948, near Polk.
He worked with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission of Nebraska. He and his wife lived in Arapahoe, Nebraska, area from 1962 thru 1976. They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska for 16 years. He became the Chief of Law Enforcement for the Game and Parks Commission in 1980. They moved to Holbrook, Nebraska, in 1992, after his retirement.
After his wife's death in 1999, he married Madeline McCoy on March 23, 2001, and they lived in Arapahoe.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Margaret; sister, Erma Werth and infant brother, Willard Schaepler.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Schaepler of Arapahoe; children, Deborah Hanebuth of Alma, Nebraska, Christine and husband, Rick Bothell of Prescott, Arizona, Charles and wife, Vickie Schaepler of Kearney, Nebraska; step- son, Steve and wife, Diane McCoy of Arapahoe, step-daughter, Lyn Tupaz of Lincoln, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services are Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation is Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
