OBERLIN, Kansas --Gary L. Allen, 77, died Sunday (Sept. 15, 2013), in Oberlin.

He was born July 23, 1936, in Oberlin to Fred and Elodie (Morrissette) Allen. He grew up in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community HIgh School in 1954.

He served in the Army National Guard and was a retired USA Colonel.

He served at eight U.S. Posts and Aberdeen Proving Ground in addition to Germany and Panama. He married Carolyn Chambers on July 23, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elodie Allen; son, Martin Allen and brother, Wendell Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Allen of Oberlin and daughter, Janell Allen of Columbus, Ohio.

Services are Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, 10 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Jim Plotts officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, from 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Northwest Kansas, American Cancer Society and woundedwarrior project.org.
