HAYES CENTER, Nebraska -- LeRoy Yost, 85, died Friday (Sept. 6, 2013), at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska.
He was born March 8, 1928, on the family farm southwest of McCook to Everett Yost and Minnie (Weeks) Yost.
He served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea for more than a year. The Army unit then returned to Fort Lawton, Washington. His ship sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge.
He married Deretha Coulter in Stratton, Nebraska, on June 10, 1951.
He lived and worked on the family farm until the fall of 1994, when he and his wife moved to Hayes Center. LeRoy built miles and miles of fence for farmers in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas. Upon moving to Hayes Center, he worked in the feedlot north of Hayes Center for several years prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deretha, and daughter, Ida (Yost) Boyle.
Survivors are his daughter, Diana (Yost) Solko and husband, Ron of Oberlin, Kansas and two grandchildren.
A graveside service was at the Oberlin Cemetery in Oberlin, Kansas, on Sept. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Proffitt officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Hayes Center Senior Center or the Hayes County Ambulance Service in LeRoy's name.
