Kerry 'Doc' Holliday
Aug. 1, 1949 - July 22, 2012
LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Kerry "Doc" Holliday died on July 22, 2012, at the age of 62 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born in Houston, Texas, joined the Coast Guard at 17, and spent the next 20 years in San Francisco, Yerba Buena Island, New York and then to Rio Vista Coast Guard Station in the early 1980s where he was made Commander of the Aids to Navigation team. In Rio Vista he met and married his wife, Kathy. He was hired by the State of California as a deckhand on the Real McCoy Ferry. He became operator of the ferry and then lead worker. He retired early from that job due to a back injury.
Kerry had a passion for sailing, reading, playing golf and most of all, traveling. He and his wife, Kathy, bought a motorhome and spent 10 years traveling all over the United States from California to Key West, Florida, creating memories for his wife and stepson. He will live in our hearts forever and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Kerry was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and stepfather. He is survived by his wife, Kathy and stepson, Curtis, of Rio Vista, California; his sisters, Cathy McDowell and Phyllis Graham of McCook, Nebraska; niece, Caitlin Whitehead of Brighton, Colorado and nephew, Dale Graham of Houston, Texas.
Kerry requested no funeral or memorial service and no announcement of his death. His ashes are scattered in the Rocky Mountains at his request. We feel now that a year has passed since his death, we wanted to remember Kerry and share with family and friends.
