OBERLIN, Kansas-- Zola F. Brown, 92, of Oberlin, died Sunday (Aug. 25, 2013), at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska.

She was born May 3, 1921, in Decatur County, Kansas, to Roy and Dollie (VanPelt) Maggard. She was raised on a farm in the Olive Township, northeast of Oberlin in Decatur County. She attended Decatur Community High School.

She married Earl J. Brown on Nov. 17, 1945, in Oberlin. She lived on a ranch 22 miles southwest of Oberlin after marriage until 2003, then moved to Cedar Living Center in Oberlin. In 2011, she moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was a member of the Order of Easter Star, Oberlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Dollie Maggard; brother, Lloyd Maggard; and twin sister, Ola Yauk.

Survivors include her husband, Earl J. Brown of Oberlin; sons, Steve and wife, Barbara Brown of Selden, Kansas and Dr. Ward and wife, Sarah Brown of Leawood, Kansas; sister, Ella Betts of Oberlin; and three grandchildren.

Services are Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Pauls Funeral Home with the Rev. Judi Stricker officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
