ATWOOD, Kansas -- Eugene "Gene" Glenn Koons, 85, died Aug. 9, 2013, at Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood, Kansas.

He was born July 31, 1928, to Harry and Mona Hamilton Koons on a farm south of Watkins, Colorado.

He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Colorado. He joined the U.S.Marines and was honorably discharged in 1947.

He married Blanche McKain Aug. 31, 1950, in Lakwood.

In 1989, he moved with his wife back to Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; sister, Maxine; sister-in-law, Shirley; niece, Michele and nephew, Harry.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche; son, Roy; brother, Harry of San Diego, California; sister-in-law, Pat of Ketchikan, Alaska; brother- in-law, Jack Larue of Sutherland, Nebraska and many friends and neighbors.

Services are Monday, Aug. 19,. 2013, 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Beardsley, Kansas, with the Rev. Nick Parker officiating. Interment is at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Parish vigil and rosary is 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
