BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Esther (Schnell) Haas, 87, died Monday (Aug.12, 2013), at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1925, to John J. and Christina (Mohr) Schnell in the family home in the North German Russian Bottoms, Lincoln, Nebraska.
She then attended Lincoln High School until she left school in her junior year to work and help support her family during World War II. She worked at Modern Cleaners for nine years before moving to the rural Beaver City area in March 1952. She married Earl F. Haas on Sept. 18, 1948. In 1968, she began working in the kitchen at the Beaver City Manor and worked there until 1987. She retired at the age of 62 to care for her husband until his death in 1991. She entered the Holdrege Memorial Homes on Nov. 5, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents;her brothers, Adam, Raymond, and Albert and sister, Leah.
She is survived by her daughters, Sidonia and husband, Ken Babcock of Beaver City, Sharon and husband, Mike Lanham of Oxford, Nebraska; two grandchildren, seven grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, two step-great- granddaughters and one step- great-great-grandson.
Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City, with Kirk Einspahr officiating.
There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be left in her name.
