McCOOK, Nebraska -- Dennis Fredrick McCarville, age 77, of McCook, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Community Hospital in McCook.

Dennis was born June 15, 1936, in Martin South Dakota, to George J. and Dorothy F. (Funk) McCarville.

Dennis graduated from Bruno High School in Bruno, Arkansas, in the class of 1955. Following graduation, he entered the United State Air Force and served his country from 1956 to 1960.

Dennis married Joan Trotter on Nov. 21, 1959, in Enfield, Connecticut. To this union three children were born. Following his military service, he moved the family to Kansas, where Dennis worked as an auto mechanic in Atwood and St. Francis, Kansas and then in McCook. Later, Dennis returned to school at McCook Community College and obtained an associate's degree in criminal justice and graduated from the police academy. He then worked as a faithful police officer for the City of McCook for nine years. Wanting to spend more time with his son, Jim, he started an auto detail business called Clean and Shine.

After selling Clean and Shine, Dennis returned to law enforcement and become the Chief of Police in Benkelman, Nebraska. While in Benkelman, he married Lorrie Clark on July 4, 1994. The couple made their home on a farm and ranch near the Kansas-Nebraska border were Dennis became the ranch foreman for the Circle A Ranch. Following his retirement in 1999, Lorrie and Dennis moved to Two Harbors Minnesota, returning to McCook in November of 2011 to be near his family.

Dennis was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where he was active in evangelism and caring for the congregation. A close relationship with God was important to Dennis. He spent hours on daily Bible studies and often wrote to spiritually encourage family and friends. While in Minnesota, Dennis was active in prison ministries. In Nebraska, Dennis regularly visited nursing homes in Trenton and Oberlin to minister to those unable to attend church services and offer encouragement.

Dennis is survived by his wife Lorrie of McCook; son, Jim and wife Janet McCarville of McCook; daughters, Barbara and husband, Tom Woracek of Maxwell, Nebraska and Kathy Steadman of Seldon, Kansas; step-sons Karl and wife, Jen Osborn of Denver, Colorado, Kerry and wife, Ashley Roalson of Denver, Colorado; step-daughters, Kaylene Osborn of Seattle, Washington and Krystle and husband, Joel Adams of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers, Harold and wife, Phyllis McCarville of McCarville of McCook, Francis McCarville of Cambridge, Nebraska and Howard and wife Wanda, McCarville of Harrison, Arkansas; sisters, Veronica and husband, Henry Trammell of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Sister Margaret McCarville of Kenton, Ohio. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, five great-grand children and three step grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; three brothers, Leo, Eugene, and Larry; one sister Catherine; two infant siblings; granddaughter Kimberly Joan McCarville; and great granddaughter Allison Elle Borg.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in McCook, Nebraska.
