Disco Discount Days will be a colorful event
Wednesday, July 17, 2013
It won't be just another shopping trip.
Sure, there will be plenty of bargains -- some prices will even match those charged 40 years ago -- but there will be lots of entertainment as well.
Stop in at a participating business, and you may see a demonstration of wood carving, stained glass, photography or print making.
Another spot may reward a visit with live performances of original music on piano, guitar, violin or other instruments, as well as dance and other arts.
Did we mention a history lesson?
The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Crazy Days theme, "Disco Discount Days," will bring back memories for those of us who remember the '70s, or fresh insights for those who have only heard their parents talking about the bouncy bass rhythms of a multicolored flashing dance floor.
Speaking of colors, you'd better watch your step if you are anywhere along the route of the "Color Me Crazy" 5K fun run/walk, sponsored by the Young Professional Group, and starting at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds.
That's because participants, who are encouraged to wear old, white clothes, will be doused with a rainbow of colors -- a free tie-dye effect -- as they pass various points on the route.
The whole event begins early Thursday as merchants don '70s-era garb for the annual costume contest, and bargains continue through Friday.
Check it out; we're sure it will be a "blast from the past!
