A blackhawk military helicopter from the U.S. Army made a brief stop at McCook Ben Nelson Regional Airport Thursday, as part of an instructional navigation flight. The flight was made with a crew of four plus four West Point cadets, headed by CW3 JP Emmons, UH60 instruction pilot, third from left. The Blackhawk is able to maneuver in tight spots and is used for transporting troops and supplies, search-and-rescue missions and medical evacuations. Each blade is 56 feet long, with total weight of the helicopter between 15,000 and 16,000 pounds. In addition, it can also lift up to an additional 9,000 pounds. The aircraft is capable of flying 222 miles per hour and was used in the capture of Osama Bin Laden. During the stop-over, Emmons visited Golight in Culbertson and saw, for the first time, his one-month-old nephew, Clayton, the son of Sarah and Neil Gohl.
