Lloyd was born on Sept. 11, 1926, at Palisade, Nebraska, to Beauford and Margaret (Jeffries) Romine. He graduated from Wauneta High School in 1943 and from the University of Nebraska in January 1950 with a degree in civil engineering.
He married Phyllis Sailors on Dec. 27, 1949, at Palisade, after which the couple lived in Lincoln while he finished college. From there they moved to Haines, Alaska, where he was employed with the Alaska Department of Roads. They returned to Nebraska in 1951 and he was employed with the Nebraska Department of Roads. Through the years he also worked with the Bureau of Reclamation in Denver, then back to Nebraska Department of Roads. His vast career led him to Diamond Engineering Company in 1954, retiring in 1993 as President of the company.
From 1944 until 1946, Lloyd served during WWII with the U.S. Naval Service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, past board member of Grand Island Saddle Club, Elks and American Legion.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Grand Island; one son, Eddie (Tamara) Romine of Mountainville, New York; four daughters, Debbie Rerucha of Grand Island, Sherri (Rodney) Watson of Phillips, Nebraska, Kimberly Romine of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Patricia Masten of Wichita, Kansas; 12 grandchildren: Shay Nolan, Ryan Nolan, Trevor Romine, Erin Romine, Braden Romine, Lauren Romine, Christopher Watson, Cara Weston, Jaden Watson, Jennifer Baker, Afton Baker and Eric Baker; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Wayne, Keith; in-laws Guy and Ruth Sailors; son-in-law, E. Russell Masten; and great-grandson, Axton Nolte.
Lloyds' greatest joy in life was caring for his family, his loving wife of 63 years, his five children, all his grandchildren and of course, Husker football. His great sense of humor never left him even in his final days. The most admired and important thing he taught his children was work ethic, integrity, and above all, kindness in all life's journeys.
