HOLBROOK, Nebraska -- Shirley Pond, age 76, of Holbrook, died at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge on June 15, 2013.

She was born Shirley Ann Valentine Stout on Feb. 14, 1937, to Joseph and Mable (Fritzen) Stout at Oxford, Nebraska. Shirley attended and graduated from Oxford High School in 1955.

On Jan. 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald G. Pond. The couple lived in McCook, Nebraska, from 1959 until 1974. During this time, Don and Shirley worked as house parents for SWATS group home caring for 18 men from 18 to 56 years of age. She also worked at the Hillcrest Nursing Home as an aide. The couple moved to Cody, Wyoming, for four years, then to Holbrook, Nebraska, in 1978. Shirley enjoyed bingo and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine Ritemeyer and Donna Stout; two brothers, Dean and wife, Dorothy and Lloyd Stout and wife, Beulah Stout; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stout.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Don of Holbrook; two brothers, Dr. Kenneth Stout, MD of Benkelman, Nebraska and Darrell Stout of Beaumont, Cailfornia, along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Shirley will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.

Services will be held at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska, on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Raippa Konka.
