TRENTON, Nebraska -- Mable Leona Phelps Dewey, daughter of Milo C. Phelps and Marjorie L. Phelps, was born on a stormy morning Jan. 17, 1928, the doctor braving the storm to get there.
She passed away June 11, 2013, at El Dorado Manor in Trenton, after a long illness at the age of 85.
She attended school in Trenton, riding with others on a converted car bus. She graduated in 1945 from the Trenton High Schol with a Normal Training Certificate for teaching.
After graduation, she taught in rural schools inthe county for eight years. With inherited musical talents, she played the piano, organ, and her favorite, guitar. She loved singing and playing the guitar and did for a number of local programs.
Leaving the teaching profession, she worked in the office of Varney Motors of Trenton, until 1957 when she went to work for the ASC office until 1965.
In 1965 she married Gerald O. Dewey. He passed away June 18, 2010. They celebrated 55 years together.
She loved her flowers and yard and making everything pretty.
She was member of the Methodist Church in Trenton for 75 years.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother.
She is survived by her sister, Lillian.
Services are Thursday, June 13, 2013, 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Trenton. Burial is at the Trenton Cemetery.
