BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Sarah Irene Coe, 84, of Beaver City, Nebraska, died Monday (June 10, 2013), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

She was born Sept. 18, 1928, at Beaver City to Harvey J. and Hazel E. (Jennings) Smith.

She attended Beaver City High School and graduated in 1946. She earned her Masters degree from Kearney State College in Kearney.

On June 18, 1947, she married Delton Ray Coe. They made their home south of "old" Republican City, Nebraska before moving north of the "new" Republican City in 1952.

She was an office manager for Jim Bishop Geological Services in Republican City. In the spring of 1960, they moved west of Republican City. She taught school at rural schools south of Beaver City and Cairo, Nebraska. She also taught at Sindt Country School north of Naponee, Nebraska, rural school district south of Alma by the state line and public schools at Mascot and Stamford, Nebraska. She taught for 16 years at Fairbury Public Schools as head librarian.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, Lion's Club, and served on the election board at Republican City. She received her 30 year pin in 1990 from the Democratic Party and was a volunteer for CASA, Caring Cupboard of Alma, United Methodist Women Thrift Shop and mission projects.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delton Ray Coe; son, Norman Coe and brothers, Robert and Leoren Smith.

She is survived by her sons, David Coe of Alma and wife, Marlene Coe of Simi Valley, California, Richard and wife, Brenda Coe of Alma, Nebraska; husband, Kenneth Johnson of Beaver City, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Friday, June 14, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Beaver City.Interment will be at the Alma Cemetery, in Alma, Nebraska.

Viewing and visitation is Thursday, June 13, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to the service at the church on Friday.
