OBERLIN, Kansas -- Opal Irene Bryan, 92, died Wednesday (May 29, 2013), at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Decatur County, Kansas, to Walter and Gertrude (Oxley) Castle.

She was raised on the family farm north of Oberlin.

She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1937.

She married Victor G. Bryan on Nov. 9, 1941, in Oberlin. After marriage, she lived on a farm west of Oberlin, then moved to Oberlin in 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Calico Gals, and Zeta Nu.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Gertrude Castle; husband, Victor Bryan; son-in-law, Carlos Britton; sister, Grace Hoppas and brother-in-law, Virgil Hoppas.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon (Marvin) Slabaugh of Oberlin and Jeanne Britton of Thornton, Colorado; brother, Walt (Joanne) Castle of Oberlin; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin, with the Rev. Nancy Proffitt officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery,

Visitation is Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to the Oberlin United Methodist Church and Decatur County Good Samaritan Society.
