Freda Leffler-Iles

WAUNETA, Nebraska -- Freda Maxine Leffler-Iles, age 100, was born on Aug. 11, 1912 in Hayes Center, Nebraska, to Daniel Blair and Sophia Fornoff May. She died on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Sunrise Heights of Wauneta, Nebraska.

Freda graduated from Hayes County High School in 1929. She then taught school in the elementary schools of Hayes County.

On Aug. 11, 1934, she married Charles "Vincent" Leffler at Hayes Center. They moved to their farm north of Hayes Center where their two daughters, Dixie and Jonel were born.

In August of 1962, Vincent was killed in a tractor accident and Freda then moved to Hayes Center and resumed teaching. In 1977, she retired from teaching after 25 terms of school in the Hayes County school systems.

After retirement, she moved to Mesa, Arizona. In 1980, she married Joe H. Iles of Washington State. Joe passed away in 1987.

Freda was a member of the Congregational Church of Hayes Center since the age of 12. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her loving parents, her beloved daughter Dixie Dee Martin, dear sisters, Elvira Cropper, Ada Anderson, Irene Green, Velda Young and two brothers, Richard (Lois) and Linden May, step daughter Carol Marshall.

Survivors include her beloved daughter Jonel (Gary) Musgrave of Granby, Colorado; son-in-law, Jon Martin of Marco Island, Florida; two step-daughters, Joanne (Reese) Sheely and Nancy (Ron) Hofman, all of Washington State; her sister-in-law, Lois May of Hayes Center; four grandchildren, Kip (Gwen) Martin, Mitzi (Scott) Sanders, Kitren (Ryan) Magley and Brock (Brandi) Musgrave; nine great- grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many.

Memorials may be given in her name to Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hayes Center.

Memorial Services will be held at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ on May 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jean Miller presiding. There will be a committal of the cremains following the service in the Hayes Center Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
