Lee Edwards

HYANNIS, Massachusetts -- Lee Edwards, 91, was born in Culbertson, Nebraska, on June 29, 1921.

He grew up on the family farm 14 miles south of Culbertson and became the patriarch of his family when his father died at an early age. When he was young, he was with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Beaver City, Nebraska. He farmed as well as worked for Klein Motor and Electric in McCook.

He and his brother, Joe, constructed buildings with hand-made cement blocks as well as lumber made from trees, at their homemade sawmill at the farm.

He married Elizabeth Delgado from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on Jan 24, 1965. He moved to McCook and later opened his own machine and welding shop, Westside Welding.

In 2001 he donated a Diamond T Truck to McCook Army Air Base. This truck had been used in World War II. Thirteen years ago, he moved to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with his family.

Lee was a member at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, and South Congregational Church in Centerville, Massachusetts.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Josephine Schmitt Edwards; sisters, LaVerne Curcio (Peter) of Lyndhurst, New Jersey and Lucy Harris (Grovert) of Indianola, Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Edwards; son, David of Cape Cod; brother, Joe Edwards (Alice) of McCook; and sister, Goldie Paolazzi (Anthony) of Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Also many nieces and nephews of New Jersey and niece, Penny Minary (Arlyn) of the McCook area.
