TRENTON, Nebraska -- Susan Kay Whatley, age 59, of Trenton, died at the El Dorado Manor on April 27, 2013.
She was born in McCook, Nebraska, on July 1, 1953, to James and Dorothy (Campbell) Shaffer. Susan grew up in the Culbertson area and attended school at Culbertson.
In January 1970, she was married to Gary Belleau, to this union a daughter, Sandra was born. In April 16, 1977, she was married to Barney Whatley and to this union a son, Andrew, was born.
Susan enjoyed fishing, crafts, especially painting ceramics and other odd and end items. She loved to cruise the yard sales. At one time she had a store called the Golden Nugget Gift shop in the hardware store. Susan was a member of the Trenton Fireman's Auxiliary from 1981 till 1993.
In 1990, Susan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, entered into the El Dorado Nursing Home in December 1997.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Williams of Lafayette, Louisiana and Andrew Whatley of Kearney; sisters, Barbara Felt of Arapahoe, Nebraska, Linda and husband, Don Hunkins of Trenton, Nebraska; brother, Ron and wife, Karen Shaffer of Mack, Colorado; grandchildren, Heather Williams and Maxwell Whatley and a special aunt, Dene Cantrall of Trenton.
Funeral services will be at the Church of God in Trenton on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Tim Roberts officiating. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery. Memorials may be left in her name.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in Trenton
