Chamber makes Crazy Days, Heritage Days plans

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce is making plans for this year's Crazy Days retail promotion July 18 to 20 and Heritage Days Sept. 25 to 29.

Crazy Days will include the costume contest on Thursday, and artist showcase on Friday, as well as the usual bargain shopping. Artists are encouraged to contact the chamber to schedule a venue to display their creations or demonstrate their craft.

New this year will be a 5K Color Me Crazy Run sponsored by the chamber's Young Professionals Group.

The race is different from other 5K races because participants (and probably a few spectators) will be doused in various colors at different points throughout the race using a colored powder.

Participants are encouraged to wear a white T-shirt at the beginning of the race, which will show off the vivid color combinations. Proceeds will be used to provide scholarships to McCook Community College and McCook Beauty Academy.

This year's Heritage Days theme is "Celebrating Your Heritage" and nominations are being accepted for the Honor Family, Parade Marshall, and the Grand Marshall. Deadline is May 6.

Board members were also updated about upcoming events, including a coffee connection on Wednesday at the McCook Police Department from 7:30 to 9 a.m. for chamber members, and a chamber volunteer appreciation lunch at Pizza Hut on April 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
