MCCOOK, Nebraska --Maxine E. Fernandez, 92, died Friday April 12, 2013), at the Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was born in Wilsonville, Nebraska, on Oct. 12, 1920, to Clarence and Opal (Payne) Scott. She graduated from Wilsonville High School.

She met Rosendo L. Fernandez, a serviceman at the McCook Air Base. They married Nov. 19, 1945, in Oberlin, Kansas. The couple moved to Palo Alto, California, where they made their home.She continued to live in California until 1997. She returned to Nebraska, living in McCook until her health failed and she moved into Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rosendo and daughter, Sharon Kaye Nizenkoff.

Survivors include her son, Gary and wife, Nancy Fernandez of Salisbury, North Carolina; sister, Avis Wolfe of Holdrege, Nebraska; four grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will take place at the Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto, California.

Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
