Top Academic awards gained at MCC's Inter-High Day

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Dundy County-Stratton, Quinter and Hitchcock County topped all schools Wednesday claiming academic division titles at the annual inter-high day competition on the McCook Community College campus.

These schools bested 16 others vying for top academic honors in 28 categories and more than $20,000 in scholarship at the Wednesday event, which in addition to testing showcased MCC's academic programs with tours and demonstrations.

Dundy County-Stratton claimed the large school division over McCook and Arapahoe. Quinter placed first in Division 2 over Sutherland while Medicine Valley and Southwest tied for third. In the small-school division Hitchcock County bested Maywood and Wauneta-Palisade.

Area students took more than 500 tests with the top placers in each category earning $500 scholarships to Mid-Plains Community College. In addition, students placing in the top three in every test received medals and three free credit hours of summer classes.

Algebra 1 -- 1. Ellie Lee, Wauneta-Palisade; 2. Kyle Biggs, Hitchcock County; 3. Nicole Kent, Dundy County-Stratton.

Algebra 2 -- 1. Sage Schmidt, Medicine Valley; 2. Nathan Rick, Hitchcock County; 3. Megan Siebrandt, McCook.

American Government/History -- 1. Jaden Clark, Medicine Valley; 2. Evans Logan, Dundy County-Stratton; 3. Easterday Clay, Eustis Farnam.

Athletic Training -- 1. Joli Hopping, Sutherland; 2. Carrick Perlinger, Paxton; 3. Spence Gydesen, Elwood.
