McCOOK, Nebraska -- Penny Faye Havel of McCook passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Golden Living Center Nursing Home in Cozad. She was 69 years old.
Penny was born on Nov. 27, 1943, at Kearney, Nebraska, to LeRoy M. and Darlene V. (Tolle) DeVall. She received her GED and later her certification as a beautician.
In 1961, she was united in marriage to Charles Burge. She later married Ray Havel on February 14, 1992, in Culbertson.
Penny attended Bethel Missionary Church in Culbertson and most recently Indianola Church of Christ. She was caregiver all of her life not only to her children but to anybody that needed her help.
She loved playing cards and coffee time spent with friends and family. Other pastimes included gardening, crafting, and dancing. She was an avid listener of the Joyce Meyer ministry television show.
Preceding her in death were her parents, LeRoy and Darlene DeVall; her husband, Ray Havel; and sisters, Patty Snell, Darlene Nelson and Mary Osborn.
Survivors include her children, Doug Burge and wife, Staci, of Zillah, Washington and their children, Maddie, Scotty, and Mackenzie; Mike Burge of Naches, Washington and his children, Jason and Jordon; Sandi Henry of McCook and her children, Katie, Brandon and Bryan; and Billy Ray Havel of North Platte; sisters, Rose Griffing of Culbertson, Delores Fahrenbruch of McCook, Nancy Meines of North Platte and Cindy and husband, Jerry Mills, of Bolivar, New York; special friend Terry Schleeman of Cambridge; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 17, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Evangelical Free Church in McCook with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, Nebraska.
