BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Gary L. Rogers, 73, of Beaver City, died Saturday (March 9, 2013), at the Beaver City Manor.
He was born March 21, 1939, in Glendale, California, to Clarence E. and Jessie E. (Juelfs) Rogers.
He grew up in Potter, Nebraska, where the family farmed, before moving to Hemingford, Nebraska, to run the lumberyard. After leaving Hemingford, the family moved to Beaver City to own and operate the local grain elevator. He finished his last two years of school at Beaver City High School and graduated in 1956. He graduated with a business degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He enlisted in the National Guards and served six years of active service. In 1963, he married Joyce Meader.
He helped with the family business, Rogers Grain Company, later moving to Nevada to work in the mining industry. In 1971, he moved the family back to Beaver City where he resumed his position at Rogers Grain Company. He worked for Edison Coop in 1977. A year later he took a general manager position with Farmers Business Association in Hendley, Nebraska. In the early 1980s, he went into full time cattle feeding and farming. After a short retirement from the farm, Gary worked at the Stamford Elevator and also worked as a truck driver for Ag Valley Coop.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rex.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rogers of Beaver City; son, Todd Rogers and Penny Ling of Beaver City; daughter, Tonya Sadd and Jim Paxton of Beaver City and six grandchildren.
Funeral services are Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Beaver City, with the Revs. Keith Theobald and Bill Weaver officiating. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City.
Vsitation is Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to the service at the church.
