Nada Louise Boyer Nokes
July 26, 1927 - March 5, 2013
McCOOK, Nebraska -- Nada Louise Boyer Nokes was born July 26, 1927, in Danbury, Nebraska to Ben and Retha Puelz Boyer. Nada spent her childhood years on the farm northwest of Danbury, and graduated from Danbury High School in 1944.
On June 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to Melvin Wayne Nokes, who recently returned from World War II after having been honorably discharged from the United States Navy. Nada and Melvin had two sons, both born in the McCook Hospital.
In 1950, Melvin and Nada moved to Sharon Springs, Kansas, where Mel and later Nada began working in service to the farming community by operating the Wallace County Coop. In the early years, Nada handled the accounting, while Melvin managed the business.
Nada was active in the Sharon Springs community through the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Square Dancing, card groups, 4-H, and supporting the children as they progressed through their numerous activities. After returning to Nebraska, Nada became a member of the United Methodist Church in McCook, and volunteered at the Helping Hands Store. Nada will be remembered for her gracious smile, her competitive spirit as she played bridge and Some-R-Set, her caring nature, and the fun she had spoiling her children and grandchildren.
Nada loved to fish, and she was a master angler, often catching the biggest fish from Louisiana and Texas to Canada. She was a devoted rodeo fan as she followed her grandchildren around the prairie states. As a Kansas University basketball fan, she followed the team long after she returned to Nebraska. She called them "my Kansas boys."
Nada passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the McCook Community Hospital. She was 85 years old.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Melvin and Nada's sister, Kathleen Jankovitz of Culbertson. Nada is also survived by her two sons, Ray and wife, Pam of McCook and Jim and wife, Glennis of Kingwood, Texas; as well as five grandchildren, two step- grandchildren, and three great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter.
