Wallace G. 'Wally' Gummere

Jan. 20, 1949- March 4, 2013

STRATTON, Nebraska -- Wallace G. "Wally" Gummere, of Stratton, Nebraska went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 4, 2013.

Wallace was born in McCook, Nebraska on Jan. 20, 1949, to Ralph and Iris (McNiece) Gummere. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1967 and from McCook Community College in 1969.

He retired in 2004 from the Farmers Co-op after thirty years. He was a volunteer member of the Stratton Rural Fire Department for twenty-nine years. He also served on the Stratton Village Board for sixteen years. He was an active member of the Christian Union Church, serving as treasurer and deacon. He enjoyed singing and was an avid sports fan who enjoyed Husker football and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Iris Gummere, and infant sister.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gloria (Reiman) of Stratton; four daughters, Glenda and husband, Kevin Ward of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Theresa and husband, Kevin Rihanek of Omaha, Nebraska, Michelle and husband Jason Smithberg of Omaha, and Lisa and friend, Stan Caha of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Lauren and Audrey Rihanek, Zachary and Liam Smithberg; two brothers, Earl Gummere and wife Dorothy, and Beryl Gummere and wife Sharon, both of Stratton.

Memorials can be sent to the American Parkinson's Disease Association-Nebraska Chapter, Gideons International or the Stratton Rural Fire Department.

Funeral services will be Friday morning, March 8, 2013, 10 a.m., (CT) at the Christian Union Church of Stratton, with Pastor Kevin Fink officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Stratton.

Visitation will be Thursday afternoon, March. 7, 2013, 4-7 p.m.. (CT) at the Christian Union Church in Stratton.
