PALISADE, Nebraksa -- Dan Ross Brown of Palisade passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at Culbertson, Nebraska. He was 64 years old.
Dan was born on Oct. 13, 1948, in Culbertson to Elma Wilson. At a young age the family moved to Portland, Oregon where he attended school.
On Sept. 20, 1966, he entered the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 17, 1969, and returned to the McCook community. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until Sept. 25, 1972.
On Dec. 27, 1970, he was united in marriage to Susan Marie Brown in McCook. To this union three children were born, Darlene, Melissa and Jason. On June 17, 2000, he was united in marriage to Teresa Ann "Tess" McCarville in Winner, South Dakota. To this union three more children were added to his family, Tom, Tonya and Taune. Dan served as State Oil and Gas Commissioner, worked at Dayco in McCook for 14 years, the local Oil Fields for 10 years, and was currently working at Frenchman Valley Coop Elevator in Culbertson at the time of his death.
Dan loved the out of doors, especially hunting, fishing and panning for gold with his cousin, Rex. He was an avid reader of Louis Lamour Western Books and loved horses, playing a marble board game, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren
Preceding him in death were his son, Jason Drew Brown on March 29, 2009, and one sister, Loretta Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Tess Brown of Palisade; daughters, Darlene and husband, Mark Brooks, of Bartley and Melissa and husband, Tom Cravey, of Imperial; mother, Elma Wilson of Portland, Oregon; step-son, Tom Jones and wife, Joanne, of Stratton; two step-daughters, Tonya and husband, Jerry French, of Rocky Ford, Colorado and Taune and husband, Gary Waremborg, of Brighton, Colorado; two brothers, George Brown and wife, Cheryl, of Milwaukee, Oregon and Ralph Bisbee of Oregon; sister, Carolyn Brown of Portland, Oregon; parents-in-law, Harold and Phyllis McCarville of McCook; seven grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild to be born in August; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, from 1-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Friends may send words of condolences to the family at www.carpenterbreland.com.
A memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, 11 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with a full military honor guard.
