NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Margaret L. (Bennett) Skraback, 74, of North Platte, passed away Jan. 23, 2013, at her home with her family.
She was born April 20, 1938, to Arthur O. and Rose M. (Hastings) Bennett at Southwest City, Missouri , then her family moved to Grant, Nebraska, where she graduated from Grant High School. She attended and graduated from McCook Community College. On Dec. 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Roy F. Skraback, the love of her life. They lived and raised their family in Trenton, Nebraska, celebrating 40 wonderful years together.
Margaret was employed in various occupations, including housekeeping/laundry at the nursing home, head cook at the Trenton Public Schools, and dispatcher/jailer for Hitchcock County for 20 years. Roy passed away on June 25, 1998, then Margaret retired in Feb. of 1999 when she moved to North Platte with her daughter's family. Margaret received a liver transplant two days before her youngest grandson was born. She enjoyed spending time with and watching her grandsons grow and become the fine young men they are today.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W while in Trenton. She continued in the Piecemakers Quilters Guild in McCook, where she traveled to attend monthly. She shared her love of stamps with her son, David, and joined the North Platte Stamp Club after moving here. She was a member of the R.S.V.P. in North Platte since 2000, where she volunteered for the Senior Center, Red Cross, Thrift Center, Lincoln County Museum and The Bulletin. She loved quilting, her stamps, spending time with her flowers in the garden and always had a good book by her side. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Steve) Norman; two grandsons, Greggory David and Grant Franklin Norman, all of North Platte; sisters, Leona Bennett of Dallas, Texas, Joan (Harold) Harlow of Confer, Colorado and Beverly Bennett of Wichita, Kansas; and a brother, Charles Bennett of Oklahoma; also several sister-in-laws, Esther Steinke of McCook, LaVeda Moses of Santa Ana, California, Alberta Anderson, Reno, Nevada and Gracie (Jim) Hockman of Boulder, Colorado; and daughter-in-law, Shirley (Cliff) Maris Skraback Riener and her three children, Sheila, Tyler and Bethany, whom she always remained close with and loved dearly.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; a son, David; and a brother, Lyle. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorials are suggested to her grandsons' college education.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.
