Russell 'Bob' Robert Leak

INDIANOLA, Nebraksa -- Russell "Bob" Robert Leak, 83, of Indianola, passed away Jan. 2, 2013, at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born April 13, 1929 in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Russell Martin and Grace Van Doris (Jones) Leak. He was one of 10 children growing up in Holbrook, Arizona. Bob graduated from Wallace High School in 1946.

Bob married Donna Lee Gartrell on Nov. 5, 1949, in McCook. To this union three children were born, Rodney, Dennis and Janice. The family made their home in numerous places, finally settling in Indianola.

Bob worked as a construction worker for many years, building houses and pole barns. He also farmed with many area farmers. Throughout the years, Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, pitching horse shoes, playing cards, collecting stamps, pens and pencils, working puzzles and bowling. Following his retirement, he began traveling to many of the lower 48 states.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska, and was baptized at the Christian Church in McCook. Bob was also a member of the Indianola Planning Commission.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Leak of Indianola, Nebraska; daughter, Janice (David) Weeder of Loomis, Nebraska; son, Rodney Leak and Irene Wessel of Broken Bow, Nebraska; son, Dennis Leak of Indianola, sister, Judy Davis of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Lacey Leak of Trenton, Rebekah Leak of Kearney, Jeremiah (Krista) Leak of Broken Bow, Hannah Leak of Kearney, William (Lynnette) Leak of Culbertson, Trisha (Steven) Keppen of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Brandon (Kayla) Leak of Clarksville, Arkansas, Jessica Leak of McCook, Jennifer (Jerry) Porter of Indianola, Nicole (Matthew) Shultz and Amanda Weeder of Presqe Isle, Maine; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Grace Leak; five sisters, Fern, Doris Jean, Deloris, Ina and Kathy; and his two brothers, Phillip and Raymond.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, 2 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Indianola.

Memorials may be given in Bob's name.
