Marguerite LaVon Samuelson

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Marguerite LaVon Samuelson, age 98, of McCook, died at the Community Hospital in McCook on Jan. 3, 2013.

She was born on July 26, 1914, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to James and Henreitta Pearson. She was baptized at the First Christian Church when she was 12 years old.

She married Harry Alvin Samuelson on June 21, 1936, in the Lutheran Church. To this union a daughter, Sharron Lee and son, Alvin Douglas, were born. The couple moved to McCook in 1950. While living in McCook, Marguerite was active in the Congregational Church. She served as a deaconess, president of the Women's Fellowship, taught Sunday School and was in the Altar Guild.

She was active in the Southwestern Association for the Handicapped, a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Navy Mothers. Marguerite worked as a nurse's aide at the St. Catherine's Hospital for many years. She did home health care after leaving St. Catherine's. She volunteered at Community Hospital as a "Pink Lady."

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry, in 1981; twin sister, Marjorie; twin half brothers, Oral and Earl; half sisters, Mabel, Mildred and Gertrude; great-granddaughter, Brandi Nicole Rowe; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Samuelson.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Sharron and husband, Gary Rowe of York, Nebraska; son, Doug of McCook; grandchildren, Troy Rowe and wife, Laura of York; Douglas of Geneva, Nebraska; Robert and wife, Becky Samuelson of Omaha; Thomasine and husband, Dave Moore of Columbus; Doug Jr. and wife, Carrie Samuelson of Columbus; Harry and wife, Tiffany Samuelson of Norfolk, Virginia; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial maybe left in Marguerite's name at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Visitation will be Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, from 1:30 to 5 p.m., at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
