LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Virginia A. Meyers, age 86, died on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was born in Curtis, Nebraska, on Oct. 23, 1926, toClarence and Ilma (Razee) Petersen. Virginia attended school at the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska, graduating in 1944. She graduated from McCook Community College in 1982. She taught rural school in Frontier County for five years.
On July 31, 1949, she was united in marriage to William Earl Meyers. He preceded her in death in February 2011. The couple made their home on a farm south of McCook.
Virginia was a member of the First Congregational Church of McCook, Gingham Gals extension club and the Farmerettes neighborhood club. She was a 4-H leader for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William, and two brothers, Clarence and Robert.
Virginia is survived by four daughters, Linda Meyers of Lincoln, Nebraska, Janice and husband, Roy Petersen of Shoreline, Washington, Barbara and husband, Pat Shurtliff of Grayslake, Illinois; Jean and husband, Jon Johnson of Albion, Nebraska; son, James and partner, Kathleen Steadman of Selden, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon Petersen of North Platte, Nebraska, Harlan and wife, Amy Petersen of Hays Springs, Nebraska and Donald and wife, Darlene Petersen of Superior, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Elva McBride of Exeter, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of McCook, Nebraska, with Pastor Steve Bales officiaitng. A private interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook, Nebraska. There will be no public viewing.
Memorials may be left in Virginia's name to the First Congregational Church of McCook.
